{203 THE {202PARTY V{203 INTROS REVIEW
{101By Randy/Ram Jam
{000The 40k intro compo this year was good, with 33 entryes, and a quite good
overall quality. The winners was ArtWork & Polka Brothers, that organised also
a 4k intro compo, just to win it with DAWN, a "cutted" version of the 40k
intro. Then, let me start writing about the 4k intro:
{014DAWN by Azure/ArtWork{000 (Winner of not official 4k intro compo)
That is the best 4k intro for Amiga made until now, probably able to win also
the 40k intro compo! As Azure wrote, the intro contain that routines:
{106 - Multiple Palettes
- Blurred Text
- Flexible Object Creator (all objects consists of 256 rectangles)
- Phong shading
- Moving Light Source
- Environment Mapping
- Environment Glenz Motion Blur
- Motion Blurred Environment Mapped Object Morphing
- Some very simple hightfield mapping with deptshading.. (voxelspace){000
That piece of art show 2 minutes of fast routines in fullscreen, 2x2 pixel.
But the good speed and shading is joined with a good design in only 4k!
This is for sure the intro to show to a PC owner.
But return to the 40k intro compo:
{0141th place: {214CREEP/Polka Brothers & ArtWork
{000The code is by {010Azure/ArtWork{000 and {010Crash/Polka Brothers{000, the gfx is by {010Fiver{000
and the music is by {010SMT{000. There are much routines found in DAWN, plus a good
flexible torus with Bump Mapping and a standard pic waving.
Except for the {007Bump mapping{000, Dawn is better than Creep!
{0142th place: {214Headcase/Axis
{000The code is by {010Stelios{000, the music is by {010Hollywood{000, the logo is by {010Lowlife{000 and
the font by {010Facet{000. Is a good work, perfect, but are shown only a couple of
"normal" phong torus, blurred cubes and a fire zoom. The only original thing
is the {007music{000, that generate a strange atmosphere. Next time use more irregular
objects, instead of standard torus!
{0143th place: {214Free Your Mind/Scoopex
{000This intro, by {010Ninja{000 & {010Daddy F{000, take only 1 minute to end and contains one
only env-mapping 3d routine, but the design of objects make it very nice.
There is a {007head that try to exit from a wall{000, and this is very impressive.
I think that intro is better than HeadCase/Axis. The music is good, but at the
end it stops witout any fade, like a bug.
{0144th place: {214PSYCHO RIFLE/Biosynthetic Design
{000The authors are {010Metal Designer{000 and {010HedgeHog{000 for the code, {010Stun{000 for the music,
{010Fra{000 e {010Lry{000 for the Gfx. The two main routines are the waving of a pic and a
nice BSD logo. During the 2 minutes of the show, some text are swapped with
the routines, and in the middle is show a pic by {010FRA{000 and {010ASH{000.
The design is good, but there is nothing really innovative. Probably the 4th
place was reach for the good {007envmapped logo{000, that with rounded corners shows
reflections better than normal donuts, torus & co.
BSD, after the release of this intro and Tenebra at SIH95, can be considered
the more productive italian group, together with Ram Jam.
Since many intros was of low quality, I review only another one that I really
like, and consider in my personal chart as the 5th place.
{01413th place: {214INDIFFERENCE/Abyss
{000This intro have no 3d effects, no env mapping, no fire, no phong, but very
{007original{000 routines and good design. The coder is {010Spin{000, already noticed with
another intro (shoot): I appreciate his courage making routines without
copy the masses. The music is by {010dRm!{000, and {010Clue{000 made the design.}
